Protect Your Child’s Android Smart Phone or Tablet From Adult Content

Configure the Free OpenDNS Cisco FamilyShield using those simple steps that work on Android devices

This article will directly explain how to use the Family Shield Cisco OpenDNS to protect an Android device — whether be it a smartphone or tabler — from adult content.

Steps for Android Devices

Step #1. On your Android Device select Settings > Private DNS then select the option “Private DNS provider hostname

Step #2. Just below you will find a text input field labelled “Enter hostname of DNS provider”. Enter the dns hostname “familyshield.opendns.com”. See screenshot below:

Step #3. Verify that the device is protected by opening a web browser and visiting www.internetbadguys.com . You should see the Cisco Umbrella blocked page as shown in the screenshot below.

Once you see the above page then you’re configured correctly.
