This article has lots of non-safe advice on creating and mounting partitions.

For one thing, the /etc/fstab line should be using the UUID of the partition instead of the block device name /dev/sdb.

Second, a partition should be created inside the block device instead of formatting the block device and mounting it.

Hopefully, the author will revise such shortcomings.
